I changed my drawing style completely for my portfolio... I really wanted my bounded book to be something that I would be truly proud of. Also, once a book is bound you can't really take anything out or put anything in sooooo basically wanted it to be more profesh. College's fashion show last night went down with almost no glitches. I am really happy, tired, sore, relieved, calm and content all in one. I am no longer a student, guys!

Next on my list: revamped logo & an online store. But first I need to take a holiday. :)

how to avoid looking like everyone else this Eid [in Cape Town]

Firstly, it's like 3am and I'm doing this post.
Secondly, there are only ten more days till Eid. Can you believe it?? TEN. MORE. DAYS.  Sadly, I'm at that age where time is flying by so unbelievably fast and I keep saying "time is flying by so fast! I can't believe it!" to myself. Almost the end of the year. Almost time to graduate. Almost my birthday.  Ack. I'm typing about myself as if this blog is about me - LOL.

So. If you aren't Capetonian and you haven't been here recently, you might not understand this post. Like I care. EVERYBODY in Cape Town will know what I mean though. Well, all Muslims in Cape Town will know what I mean. Capetonian Muslims are bandwagon jumpers. Oh, someone you know started surfing? I'll start surfing! Everyone I know should start surfing! Whoa, what are these pretty little cookies you're eating? They're so pretty! They're called macaroons*? So cute! Let me take pictures! Everyone I know should love macaroons now! Oh, your favourite colour is burgundy? I love burgundy! I'll dye my dog** cat burgundy! You should love burgundy! And you should love burgundy!*** Let's all be burgundy plz.

Yeah. On Eid, 90% of the Mozlems will be dressed similar. This is a problem (these days) because dear Capetonian Muslims are getting in on the hipsterrrr craze. Which means you absolutely cannot look or be like anyone else. Don't be mainstream, bro. I decided to be kind and made a little graphic to guide your retail choices.

Best way not to be mainstream? Wear an abaya/thawb. No pressure, easy and not as expensive.


Finally, I hope all y'all Muslims had a wonderful, fulfilling Ramadaan 2012 and that your Eid will be delightful. Peace, love and light :)

song of the month: august 2012

oh my glob - IT'S AUGUST! this year went by wayy too fast for my liking. Do you ever feel like you need a hyperbolic time chamber to get things done? I feel like that daily weekly. But I digress.* The song for August is a remix of the lovely Florence Welsh's Spectrum (Say My Name)!. You've probably heard it before me**, whatever.  The awesome & goodlooking ( :) ) Calvin Harris does a brilliant remix of this song, I must've played it a million times the day I got it. Anyway, enough of me, here's the song:

Yeah, I know, I'm the worst fashion designer ever. WHATEVS. I was partially inspired by Mr T. Burton. That guy, he's a genius.

"Festival Glam" is a predicted trend for SS 2012/13 and some of the key items are definitely abundant at Coachella. Things such as:

So, now you know. I just wish I could be there one day, but it's all the way in Cali and I'm all the way in South Africa. Fuck. I want to go to there.

Song of the Month: March 2012

I was watching TV the other day and I heard a song by the Generationals playing in an advertisement. I don't remember what that commercial was about but it did make me remember how much I liked this song, SO I decided to make it March's song of the month.

The song is called Ten-Twenty-Ten and I'm ashamed to admit that I first heard it in that MTV show "Awkward"*. STOP JUDGING ME. I really like it, this song makes me tap my toes**. I currently have it playing on repeat in my ears. It makes me happy :) BTW I have one more week of college then 3 weeks of vaykay, YAY! That makes me happy too. If you like chilled indie rock, do yourself a HUGE favour and listen to this duo's latest album Actor-Caster. Thank me later.

*NOTHING about this show is awkward. It's like when the stupid people on facebook update their status about how awkward their mundane lives/dumb actions are. Not awkward you guys.

Cookieman + Lanvin

I love Pharrell Williams and I love Lanvin, so imagine how happy I was to see a sort of collab between the two. Pharrell's latest protege of sorts, 18 year old musician Maxine Ashley, has her track, Cookieman, playing in the background to gorgeous models at an "exotic and festive dinner party".  The new Lanvin S/S 2012 Ad campaign is every bit as weird and lovely as their Fall Winter 2011/2012 ad campaign.
